The Yamaha P90...is a fine digital piano. Yamaha has cooked up a great product here, adding in many ingredients that are so appealing. The result is a digital piano that features the latest in sound technology, and is amazingly portable and affordable.
Those of you looking for the model P80: you'll have to settle with the upgraded P90...and we don't think you'll mind "settling" when you see all that they have added! Yamaha took everything we liked from the P80, improved the sounds, kept it nice and portable, and generally made it better than we thought it could be. Trust us...if you liked the P80, you'll love the P90.
The sound quality and the feel of the keyboard are what we evaluate first, and the P90 scores high in both areas. Technically, the P90 features more than twice the wave ROM of the P80, which results in longer, sustained samples and many sample points. We say that it just sounds right. Whether you play loud or soft, forte or pianissimo, the piano both sounds, and feels, authentic. The action is Yamaha's Graded Hammer Effect keyboard which only adds to the experience: the action is lighter on top than it is on the bottom, like a real piano.
A large voice selection (includes Grand Piano 1, Grand Piano 2, E.Piano 1, E.Piano 2, Clavicord, Harpsicord, Vibes, Guitar, Church Organ, Jazz Organ, Strings, Choir, Wood Bass, E.Bass, plus variations for each voice) adds fun and flexibiity for playing a variety of different music. And you can both layer and split the keyboard for a piano/string combination, for example, or play bass in the left hand with an electric piano on the right hand.
A song recorder and metronome is also onboard, and both features make practicing fun and easy.
The most extraordinary thing about this piano is its size and versatility. At only 37 lbs, it's one of the most compact hammer action digital pianos available. Whether you need to frequently move the P90 from one room to another, or from your practice studio to a performance, the P90's weight makes that easy. And that's not a small accomplishment...you rarely can have your cake and eat it too. With a wide variety of stand and speaker options, it can be set up for home use or stage use. With the P90, you can have a great playing digital piano without the bulk you would expect.
