To put it simply, anything that a speaker sits on will also vibrate and give off its own sound waves, a phenomenon known as ''acoustic coupling.'' If you bought studio monitors in order to accurately hear what your mixes sound like, but they are sitting bare on a surface, then you are also hearing what the surface sounds like when it's being vibrated. I.E. you still aren't hearing an accurate representation of the music.
