Mackie HR624 Powered Studio Monitor

People continue to rave about our Mackie HR824 Studio Monitors. But all studios are not created equal, and many of our customers wanted something smaller for desktop production. That's why we designed the HR624 - a compact version of our world-renowned HR824. Just like its big brother, the Mackie HR624 is a THX-approved, two-way Active reference monitor that provides the same legendary accuracy of Mackie's HR824 in a more compact, affordable package.

The Mackie HR624 is the ideal choice for professional, home and project studios seeking a very accurate, small footprint monitor. With extremely even dispersion for a wide ''sweet spot'' and user-adjustable controls for a variety of acoustic spaces, the HR624 is found in hundreds of professional studios and in the home studios of top recording artists (see list at left). Its high output, wide frequency response and small size also make it ideally suited for rear surround channels in home theater installations.

As its numerous awards and glowing reviews will attest, the Mackie HR624 is a truly excellent-sounding studio monitor. Like its ''big brother'' the HR824, the HR624 delivers detailed, non-fatiguing highs and room shakingly rich bass content, without the exaggerations so common to other studio monitors its size. Frequency response is an incredible +/- 1.5 dB from 51Hz to 20kHz - an impressive feat for such a small enclosure. And if you require even more bass, the HR624 is designed to work in perfect harmony with the Mackie HRS120 Active Subwoofer system.

The 100- and 40-watt FR (Fast Recovery) Series amplifiers inside the HR624 are clean, ultra-reliable and, most importantly, specifically designed for their drivers. These custom-designed, high-precision amps can extract every precious drop of sound from the HR624's transducers, without pushing them over the edge. Specifically, a pair of HR624s can put out a whopping SPL of 115dB@1 meter. Add to this our phase- and time-correction electronics, and you've got one superb Active monitor. Read more.

That unusual looking tweeter is actually our waveguide-mounted 1'' aluminum dome HF transducer. (Try to say that five times fast.) The logarithmic waveguide works with the tweeter to ensure accurate, even dispersion of the high-frequency content, creating a much wider ''sweet spot'' than most studio monitors. And Mackie HR624s are so smooth, they won't wear you out, even after hours of tracking and mixing.

Ideally, your monitor speakers should be placed well away from wall surfaces. But this isn't always easy in small project studios and video post suites. The HR624 has a 3-position switch that can be set for full space (way out from the walls), half-space (against a back wall), or quarter space (in a corner). The Acoustic Space Control, for accurate bass in a small control room.

The HR624 plays considerably lower than most home stereo speakers can go. So we provided you with an 80Hz Roll-Off switch to temporarily disable extremely low bass when mixing for AM radios, boom boxes, and old people who rarely attend raves.

Although we expect that you have acoustic treatment in your control room (egg crates, wall carpets with dogs playing cards, etc.), there may be times you might be using the HR624 in larger, more live spaces such as a conference room. For these occasions, we've included a high frequency shelving control that reduces frequencies above 10kHz by 2dB. Conversely, in rooms where high frequency content is easily absorbed, a 2dB boost is available.

Although HR624s deliver uncompromising performance on par with any competitor on the market, they aren't nearly as expensive as many "prima donna" studio monitors out there. Thanks to our advanced manufacturing techniques, Mackie HR624's deliver ''high-end'' performance without the high-end price tag. And when you compare them with passive monitors (requiring external power amplifiers, crossovers, and equalization), HR624s stand out as an exceptional value. Bring your favorite CD to a nearby dealer and compare them side-by-side with the competition.
